TORREY PINES GIRLS VARSITY HEAD COACH
BRENNAN DEAN:

A 4-year varsity letterman in volleyball and water polo at Torrey Pines HS, Brennan Dean continued his passion for the game and played another four years at Chico State, and was named team captain his junior and senior years. Brennan earned a BA in Psychology with a minor in Ethics in 2003 from Chico State and an MA in Educational Counseling in 2005 from Pt. Loma Nazarene University. In 2006 Brennan began working as a counselor at Torrey Pines High School. In 2010 Brennan became the Head Counselor at Torrey Pines High School and the District Head Counselor for the San Dieguito Union High School District.

Brennan has been coaching boys and girls volleyball since 2004. Brennan’s team earned a Bronze Medal in the Junior National 17 Open Division.  In 2008 his team earned a Silver Medal in Junior National 18 Open division. In 2010, his team finished number one in the 16 and under Southern California Volleyball Region.

He is married to his wife, Kristen, and lives in La Costa where he can often be found running the trails with his dog, Wallie.

TORREY PINES GIRLS ASSISTANT VARSITY HEAD COACH
JANNA STERN:

Janna Stern grew up in the central valley and played volleyball, basketball, and soccer throughout high school. She continued her passion for volleyball at UC Riverside as a setter/outside hitter. She has set an all-time school record with 34 kills in 1998. Stern earned a BA in Mathematics with a minor in Education from UCR in 1999. In 2001, she moved to Arizona to teach high school math and to coach volleyball. In 2009, she returns to California and has been teaching at University City High School. She specializes in Algebra and Geometry.
In 1999, Janna started her coaching career as a graduate assistant at UCR and in her next season she was the first assistant at CSU San Bernardino. In 2001, Janna moved to Arizona and became a head varsity coach where she lead Corona del Sol High School to four consecutive Region Conference Championships and a 5A State Runner-up in 2005. She then moved to Chandler High School to build their program where she also earned a Region Conference Championship and the school’s first appearance in the 5A Final Four in 2007. She coached at Club Red Volleyball Club where her 18’s club team won the Las Vegas Invitational 18-Club Division in 2007. Stern currently coaches at Encinitas Wave volleyball club and in 2009 her 14’s earned a Bronze Medal in American 14 Club at the Junior Olympics in Miami. In 2010, her 15's team won the Southern California Qualifier.
She lives in Del Mar and can be found walking around town with her dog, Bruiser.

TORREY PINES GIRLS JUNIOR VARSITY HEAD COACH
MATT WILKINSON:

Matt Wilkinson is a graduate of San Pasqual High School where he was a four-year starting setter on the boy’s volleyball team. In 1994 his team won the CIF Championship and he was named CIF MVP. He also holds the record at San Pasqual for single season and career assists.

In 1995, Matt was the starting setter for Palomar College. His team took second in the State Championships and Matt was named First Team All State.
In 2000, Matt was the setter for Grossmont College, which finished third in the state that year and Matt was again named First Team All State.

Matt coached Boys volleyball at San Pasqual High from 2000-2007. In 2007 he led the Boys to a Division II CIF Championship title. He coached Girls volleyball at San Pasqual in 2001 and 2002, winning two league and two Division II CIF Championship titles. Presently, Matt is coaching at Varsity Boys and JV girls at Torrey Pines HS.

Matt was named California Coach of the Year for high school volleyball for the 2001-2002 school year. Matt was also named CIF Coach of the Year in 2007 for his work with the San Pasqual Boys.

Matt has several years of experience in club coaching as well. In 2002, he coached the boys 15-1 team for Seaside Volleyball Club, which placed 6th at the Junior Olympics. In 2003 he was a co-coach of the Sunwest girl’s 16-1 team. In 2004, Matt was Epic's Boys 15-1 coach, which placed second in the Club Division of the Junior Olympics, in 2005 he was Epic's Boys 16-1 coach, leading the team to a 5th place finish in the Open Division of the Junior Olympics, and 2006 he was the Boys 17-1 coach and lead them to a bronze medal at Junior Olympics. In 2007 he was the Boys 15-1 coach and led them to a 10th place finish at Junior Olympics. In 2008 he was the Boys 16-1 coach and led them to a 2nd place finish at Junior Olympics.

TORREY PINES GIRLS FRESHMAN HEAD COACH
MEGAN KISSEL:

From 2004-2008 Megan Kissel played as middle blocker for Kansas State University, finishing among the Top 25 teams in the nation every year. She was Team Captain her senior year, and mid-season during that campaign was ranked 3rd in the nation in hitting percentage at .451. In 2007 Kissel ended the season with a .390 hitting percentage which ranked 4th in the Big 12 and 17th nationally. For her career, Megan ranks 2nd in school history for hitting percentage at .348 and 5th in school history with 394 career blocks.

In both 2007 and 2008 she finished the season on the All Big 12 Honorable Mention Team. Kissel excelled in the classroom at K-State as well as on the court. She was placed on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII Team in 2008 and earned a spot on the K-State Dean's List for five semesters. Between 2005-2008 Megan landed on the All Big 12 Commissioners Honor Roll and the All- Big 12 Academic Team. During her tenure at Kansas State, Kissel coached at numerous summer camps on campus and in the surrounding communities. She also received the Mortar Board Community Service Award in 2008 for her volunteer efforts with elementary age school children. Kissel graduated from K-State with a 3.625 GPA and a BS in Business Management. In December, 2009, she was awarded a Masters'
Degree from Kansas State in Counseling and Student Development with an emphasis on Intercollegiate Athletics. Megan was married in July 2010 to her husband, BJ Kissel, and currently lives in Carmel Valley. She enjoys hiking and going to the beach in her free time."
